Lillies: Easter vs Asiatic vs Oriental

Over the past couple months GrowIt! users shared photos of various lilies: Easter, Asiatic, and Oriental. However, we have noticed that many lilies were often mislabeled for one another. We hope that the photo examples that outline the characteristics of each lily type will help users better identify their lilies.


Easter Lily (Lilium longiflorum):

  • white
  • 5-10 flowers per stem
  • sweet perfume

Asiatic Lily:

  • vary in bloom orientations, height, and color.
  • 3-12 flowers per stem
  • very hardy, pest-free

Oriental Lily:

  • wider leaves
  • later bloom than asiatics
  • strong, spicy perfume
  • 6-12 large, open-faced blossoms with shades of pink, white, red, and yellow
  • part-shade preferred
  • over-wintering possible
